Pancho Guedes: Manifestos, Papers, Lectures, Publications
Ana Vaz Milheiro, João Afonso, Jorge Nunes (eds.)
Pancho Guedes was born in Lisbon in 1925, and moved to Mozambique in 1932. He graduated as an architect at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa, and in the early fifties he began work in Lourenço Marques, future Maputo, returning to Europe to obtain equivalence and be able to sign projects in the Portuguese Empire.
Although he lived in Africa, he was not an “ethnic” architect, however he tried to connect Western culture from the South African European matrix, projecting himself into reconstruction in the future. In this book there are four categories of writings: Manifestos, Papers, Lectures and Publications
This edition was a candidate for the “Programa de Apoio Complementar” in the area of the 2007 edition, promoted by the Direcção-Geral das Artes.
