Novo / Antigo – Escola do Porto

Teresa Cunha Ferreira, David Ordóñez Castañón (eds.)

This book represents one facet of an editorial project on the topic of contemporary interventions into the built heritage that aims to serve as a pedagogical tool both for the teaching and professional exercise of architecture. The project conveys a renewed perspective on redesign practices through an interpretive narrative of the process of design and construction (before, during, and after intervention), reaching beyond the final result, as is often the case in architectural publications. The book presents twenty-two works by architects trained at the Escola Superior de Belas Artes do Porto (ESBAP), framed with critical texts by national and international authors. In this way, it reflects on the legacy of the School of Porto within a contemporary approach to intervention in pre-existing buildings, open to new syntheses and re-significations, in continuity with tradition.
